Suhum, May 18, GNA - Fifteen Naval Officers from the British Royal Navy and some officials from the British High Commission in Ghana, including the Deputy Head of Mission in Ghana, Mr. Robin Guyan visited the Tootor Orphanage School, near Suhum in the Eastern Region. Led by the captain of the ship, Captain Mac Babeardall, they undertook a four-hour clean-up exercise in the school, painted the classroom blocks, the dormitory, office and kitchen.
Addressing the school, chiefs and cross-section of the community, Capt. Babeardall said the British government would continue to maintain the good relationship with Ghana and therefore, called on the people to reciprocate that gesture.
He said it was the wish of the British government to assist such needy institutions, hence the visit to the school by the officers. Capt. Babeardell commended the Baptist Church for opening the Orphanage school in the village and pledged the support of the British government, adding that the British Royal Navy, which is currently on a visit to the country, would liaise with the British Women Association in Ghana to improve the school's condition.
The founder and the proprietor of the school, Rev. Victor Ofori Amoah, expressed his appreciation to the Royal Navy for the visit, adding that the school was establish seven years ago with eight orphans but now has over 120.
The acting Odikro of the village, Nene Kwame Alfredy, appealed to the British government to provide the village with water and electricity.
