Bolgatanga, May 7, GNA-More than 400 members of the People's National Convention (PNC) Party in the Zebilla Constituency in the Upper East Region led by Mr. John A Ndebugre former PNC Member of Parliament, defected from their party to join the New Patriotic Party(NPP).

This was announced by Mr. Ndebugre on Thursday at a Press Conference he organized with some of the members in Bolgatanga and attended by NPP Regional Executives and members.

Explaining the reasons why they defected, Mr. Ndebugre, who was once the First National Vice Chairman of PNC, said the group did not recognize the National Executive of the PNC and could not therefore remain in the Party.

He said the defecting PNC group had met with the NPP in Zebilla Constituency on May 1 and unanimously resolved to break their links with the PNC and become part and parcel of the NPP.

" Subsequent to the resolution of May 1st 2009, discussions have been held with executives of the Zebilla Constituency branch of the NPP and there has been an understanding between the two groups to work together to strengthen the NPP with the aim that it recaptures power in 2012", he said.

Mr. Mahami Salifu former Regional Minister and the Regional Executive of the NPP welcomed the PNC members to the NPP and said they were happy to have them. Mr Ndebugre later presented his application letter and passport size pictures to the NPP Executive.
