The Minister for Economic Planning and Regional Co-operation, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has said that the poverty level in the Central Region has become worse over the years.
He has therefore asked the Central Regional Coordinating Council, District Assemblies and other stakeholders to work towards encouraging investors to support the development drive of the region to enhance its growth. Dr Nduom said this when he opened a Regional Consultative Seminar at Cape Coast. It was attended by representatives from the district assembles, religious groups, traditional councils and others and aimed at finding ways to reduce poverty in the region and the country generally.

Dr Nduom said this when he opened a Regional Consultative Seminar at Cape Coast. Dr Nduom regretted that the country is still crippling with hunger, disease and poverty after 45 years of independence, although it is endowed with the requisite human and natural resources. He said while 40 per cent of the people in the country have incomes below the upper poverty line, over 40 per cent of those living in West Africa are poor. He said the government is therefore embarking on a three-year medium plan to reduce poverty and generate growth. Priority areas to be tackled include infrastructure development, enhanced social services, private sector development, good governance and modernized Agriculture.
