Elmina Jan.3 GNA - Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, Minister of Energy on Friday called on the Convention People's Party (CPP) to concentrate on winning more parliamentary seats, since the party is not favoured to win the 2004 presidential election.
He said the membership of the party should work hard to win the hearts and minds of a new generation of Ghanaians and urged the leadership to close their ranks to evolve more pragmatic campaign strategies to enable them to win more seats in parliament.
Dr Nduom made the call at the launch of an all inclusive campaign strategy at Elmina, when he announced his intension to contest the seat for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem constituency on the CPP ticket.
Dr Nduom, who is also the assembly member of Akotobinsin electoral area pointed out that CPP comes from one of the two democratic political traditions Ghana has and needs to grow and offer leadership to the country.
He said the grounds were prepared for an effective all-inclusive campaign in the constituency and that everything would be done to attract voters from all political and social groups in the constituency.
Dr Nduom said he joined President Kufuor's administration because he likes politics of inclusion, which he said, gives everybody the chance to serve the nation, adding that the all inclusive government of President Kufuor has won for him and the nation a lot of credit and goodwill from governments and international institutions worldwide.
Dr. Nduom said it was in this regard that he launched the all-inclusive campaign strategy and will base it on his vision of helping to facilitate and sustain positive change in Ghana.
He said he worked hard and supported the district, particularly in job creation and education and will continue to promote and support the district everywhere he goes and commended the people for the support they gave him in 2000 elections and urged them to accord him similar support in this years elections.
He said they were the same people and should therefore, not allow politics to divide them and urged them to do politics void of violence and insults.
Mr Freddie Blay, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, described Dr Nduom as a star of the CPP and asked the party supporters to endeavour not to lose this star by voting massively for him in the elections to enable him to share his expertise with Ghanaians.
Mr Kwamena Bartels, Minister of Private Sector Development, urged the people of KEEA not to disappoint Dr Nduom again in this year's election but that they reciprocate the good things he has done for the area and the nation as a whole by voting for him.
He said Dr Nduom was committed and would do everything to help develop the area if he is made an MP and asked them not to 'throw away' their votes by not voting for him.
