The Northern regional minister, Salifu Saaed has announced a decidion to rescind the road contract initially awarded to Ibrahim Mahama.
Ibrahim Mahama’s firm, Engineers and Planners was tasked to take charge of repair and maintenance works on the Bimbilla-Salaga road. It is alleged that they abandoned the project after receiving the mobilization fee.
The minister expressed surprise at the fact that though Engineers and Planners had been paid, and are fully equipped for the task, they have failed to perform their duties.
The minister asked inhabitants in the community, as well users of the road to be patient, as measures were being implemented to address the issue.
Heavy rains in the past week rendered the road unusable. Also lost were human lives, monies and domestic animals kept by residents in the area.
He therefore asked contractors who are at work on all of the Eastern corridor roads to refocus their attention on the Bimbilla-Salaga road.
Adding his voice to the issue, the regent of Bimbilla, Naa Andani Dasana stated that the bad nature of the road is affecting business activities in the district.
He therefore called for an urgent plan to ensure that the work is restarted on the road.
He went on to say that the road should be converted to a dual or a multi carriage road, instead of the single lane road as per the initial plan.
This, he said, is because, there are immense prospects for growth and development in the area.
