Social media users have criticized the Ghana Police Service for summoning musician-turned-political activist Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, in connection with the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.
A Plus was recently called to the police headquarters for questioning after he claimed to know the identity of Suale's killers. Suale, an investigative journalist, was shot dead in Madina in 2019.
The public outcry centres around the perceived disparity in police actions, with many pointing to Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, who previously made public comments about Suale.
Agyapong is on record stating that his workers should beat Suale should he be found around his premises, and he is ready to pay for any damages.
Social media users are questioning why the police have not detained Kennedy Agyapong.
They accuse the authorities of selective justice and favouritism.
One user expressed their disbelief: "See the useless exercise again. Since when was he killed?? When Kennedy Agyapong said 'he knows where Suale lives, that people should beat and kill him and get paid by him' where was the police??? Power is transient you must not be carried by someone's interest."
Another user echoed, "Kennedy Agyapong has earlier informed the whole world that he knows the killer and that he lives in Kumasi. Do you need a pen to write an invitation to him? Or you need credit to call him on the phone? How did you invite A-Plus? Do the same to Kennedy Agyapong. Or you dey fear fire?"
"How many times did Kennedy Agyapong talk of knowing the killer of Ahmed Suale?? Who invited him to assist in the investigation?? A country full of comedy," another user remarked.
One user directly questioned the police's integrity: "Please, is Ghana Police Service afraid of Kennedy Agyapong?"
"Then you must invite Hon. Kennedy Agyapong too for some of his statements he made about this issue. If it was the UK, he would have been invited and investigated long ago," urged another user.
