Social media users are divided over Ghanaian public figure Kwame Owusu Fordjour, popularly known as "Dr. UN," following his public appeal for financial support to undergo urgent surgery.

In a viral video, Dr. UN, a self-proclaimed academic and alleged UN ambassador, is seen appealing for alms to fund a kidney surgery.

In the video, he mentions that the cost of the procedure is approximately GH¢ 400,000.

He called on musicians and fellow Ghanaians to help him raise funds for the surgery, saying, “I have been sick for a while, so I call on everybody to help me, Captain Smart, the Onua crew, Media General, all musicians like Medikal, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Delay, and McBrown…You are my only hope as of now.”

However, reactions on social media have been mixed, with many sharing different views on Dr. UN’s appeal.

Some users accused him of attempting to scam the public again, referencing his infamous "UN Awards," which were later revealed to be a fraudulent scheme.

One user commented, “The man who scammed the whole country, and you believe him now?”

“Hello landlord [@Sarkodie], it’s time to forgive him and help him, bro. No matter what you do, Dr. UN is part of your legacy. He gave you a water bottle and told you that ‘water is life,’ and that you hold the life of many people. Now is the time to return the favour,” another said.

A commenter shared, “The easiest way for one to go broke is through sickness. May God give us good health.”

Dr. UN’s appeal has sparked considerable discussion, with some users questioning his credentials, claiming, “A Harvard PhD holder and UN ambassador? Surely, such a person would have health insurance. Is this a social experiment by the UN?”
