Never take constituents for granted – Zanetor Rawlings warns

Ms Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey-Korley Constituency in the Greater Accra Region has cautioned against taking constituents who vote for you at polls for granted.

She explained that it is one of the reasons for which she frequently and regularly holds Town Hall Meetings with her constituents, singling out accountability as the most important principle in leadership.

The eldest daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings and passionate crusader for accountability of leaders detailed her reasons on social media:

“One of the important tenets of leadership is accountability; the reason why I organise periodic townhall meetings to update my constituents on the mandate they have given me to serve them.

These meetings also afford my constituents the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification about developments within constituency, and to bring to my attention pressing issues within their localities. Such events do not only help to build bridges between leadership and constituents, but also create a perfect synergy for development.”

She also expressed gratitude to all who have been collaborating with her to make the meetings possible, giving especial thanks to the current Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, for being present at the latest meeting held over the weekend.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude to the Honourable Minister for Works and Housing, Mr. Atta Akyea for honouring our invitation to the latest in the series of townhall meetings held last Friday and Saturday. My heartfelt appreciation also goes to the Adabraka Mantse, the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, the Police Service, Fire Service, the Electoral Commission, Ghana Education Service, and all who contributed in various ways in making the townhall meetings successful,” she lauded.

Ms Agyeman-Rawlings recently underscored the importance of accountability at the 40th anniversary of the June 4 Uprising, urging the electorate to always hold their leaders accountable.

“We are discerning; we know what is true and what is not. Let us be guided by these principles in our choice of members of the assembly, members of Parliament and of the Executive.

“Let us not think that it is just for four years and it will pass. A lot can happen in four years so every time we go to vote let us remember these are the people we are giving the authority to do what they are meant to do on our behalf,” she declared in June this year.
