New Abirem chiefs undertake development projects

The Abirem Traditional Council, headed by Obrempong Akwasi Amo Kyeretwie, Abiremhene, has initiated development projects to help improve the lot of the people.

The Abiremhene made this known when he and his elders took the Ghana News Agency round to inspect access roads under construction at New Abirem in the Birim North District.

Obrempong Kyeretwie, who is also the Acting Gyaasehene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, said about GH¢30,000 had so far been spent on the projects, with funding from the sale of land in the traditional area.

He appealed to indigenes in and outside the town for assistance to complete the projects.

Obrempong Kyeretwie said in line with Government's policy to name all streets, the Traditional Council had decided to name streets after individuals and organisations who would make meaningful contributions towards the completion of the projects.

He said the Traditional Council was constructing a platform for refuse containers to facilitate the disposal of refuse to improve the sanitation situation at New Abirem and its environs.

“The mountain-heap of refuse at a dumping site in the town has been cleared with a bulldozer and filled with laterite at a cost of about GH¢20,000.00,” he said.

He appealed to Newmont Golden Ridge (Akyem) for assistance to construct the platform which is estimated at about GH¢4,000.00

Obrempong Kyeretwie disclosed that to improve security at the Abirem District Hospital, the Traditional Council was constructing a fence wall around the hospital to improve security adding that two trips each of sand and stones worth Gh¢1,600.00 has been supplied to the hospital in addition to 3,000 pieces of blocks costing Gh¢5,100.

“We will continue to supply more materials towards the fencing since the hospital has agreed to provide labour,” he said.
