The Abirem Traditional Council, headed by Obrempong Akwasi Amo Kyeretwie I, Abiremhene, has initiated development projects to help improve the lot of the people. So far, the council had spent GH¢30,000 on roads under construction at New Abirem in the Birim North District.
The Abiremhene made this known when he and his elders took the Ghana News Agency round to inspect access roads under construction at New Abirem.
Obrempong Kyeretwie, who is also the acting Gyaasehene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, said funding of the project came from the sale of building plots in the traditional area.
He appealed to the government and indigenes in and outside the town for assistance to complete the projects.
Obrempong Kyeretwie said in line with the government’s policy to name all streets, the traditional council had decided to name streets after individuals and organisations who would make meaningful contributions towards the completion of the project and other projects in the town.
He said the traditional council was constructing a platform for a refuse container to facilitate the disposal of refuse to improve the sanitation situation at New Abirem and its environs.
“The mountain-heap of refuse at a dumping site in the town has been cleared with a bulldozer and filled with laterite at a cost of about GH¢20,000,” he said.
He appealed to Newmont Golden Ridge (Akyem) for assistance to construct the platform which had been estimated at a little over GH¢4,000.00
Obrempong Kyeretwie disclosed that to improve security at the Abirem District Hospital, the traditional council was constructing a fence around the hospital and added that two trips each of sand and stones worth GH¢1,600.00 had been supplied to the hospital, in addition to 3,000 pieces of blocks costing GH¢5,100.
“We will continue to supply more materials towards the fencing since the hospital has agreed to provide labour,” he said.
