‘Built To Care’ – exactly what this new facility looks like. The New Dodowa hospital, a Ministry of Health and NMS Infrastructure Ltd investment is ready for commissioning.

The project forms part of a $175 million investment to deliver six new district hospitals to raise the standards of health care at the regional and district levels throughout country.

The programme includes new district hospitals to be developed in Sekondi, Kumawu, Abetifi, Fomena and Garu-Tempane with seventh hospital – the European Hospital in the Takoradi Metropolitan District – to be upgraded and re-equipped.

The hospital, located in the heart of the Shai Osudoku district; the largest in the Greater Accra, is designed to be capable of expansion from 120 beds to 200 beds.

The facility births an avante-garde design, with a complete therapeutic environment to aid patient recovery.

Why this is necessary?

The existing Shai-Osudoku District Hospital in Dodowa was established as a health centre in 1985. Attendance at the hospital has more than tripled from 13,080 to over 42,000 between 2009 and 2012. Hospital attendance is expected to increase further by 50 % in 2015.

The Dodowa District Hospital is expected to help solve the growing attendance crisis, providing faster and cheaper care for the Dodowa community.

Here are some exclusive photos of the facility.

Staffing

To promote a safe and effective use of the medical equipment and to understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), user manuals and maintenance requirements a 4-week training programme was organized in August 2015, at the old Dodowa District Hospital in order to induct the 157 clinical staff to the new hospital equipment they’ll be using when they move to the new hospital.
