New EAGLE Party In Full Flight

Fri, 17 Jan 2003 Source:

The New Eagle Party has embarked upon a nationwide campaign to identify selfless men and women who will join them in their quest for better governance of the country, come 2005.

''Basically the New Eagle Party concept is on the Holy Grail, this means that we are looking for people who actually have the desire or the spirit of fulfillment to give and receive service.''

''We don’t want selfish and greedy people who will capitalise on their possessions to amass wealth at the expense of the masses. No, that is not the way we are going.''

The chairman of the party’s council of elders, Nana Danny Ofori Atta, told the Chronicle newspaper in an interview that a lot of mistakes were committed by past governments ''but we don’t want to be critical, human as we are, but we have seen that at least we can make it better.''

Explaining the significance of the Eagle, Mr. Ofori Atta said the bird is the embodiment of the courage of God; fearing people who wait on the Lord. He said the decision of the Eagle Party to go it all alone in 2004 is not meant to dent the fortunes of the National Democratic Congress Party, admitting that the NDC as a formidable party that has been in power for two political terms of eight years cannot be toyed with.

''All we are saying is that the NDC should help its alliance parties to also become formidable, he explained, confessing, ''we are not angry with them but we are only begging of them that we find it vital and politically expedient to turn the Eagle Party also into a formidable political party.'' Nana Ofori Atta however did not rule out a possible merger with either of the three major parties of the NPP, NDC and the CPP should the situation demand it.

He described the absconded chairman, Hon. Owraku Amofa as a prodigal son who would be readily accepted into the party anytime he so desired. The Chairman referred to Michael Soussoudis as a faithful member of the party and one of its heavy weights around whom the EP is being re-organised.

On finance, Ofori Atta said the party will rely on their trained political financing personnel to show the whole country and the outside world that ''political financing is a career and we have the men and women who will employ strategies that help in financing the party''.

According to him, the party would go to congress to elect its flagbearer and other officials in June this year based upon the re-organisation exercises currently going on in the constituencies.

He paid glowing tribute to members who have braved the political storm and remained faithful to the spirit of the Eagle Party.
