Koforidua, Jan. 5, GNA - The New Juaben Municipal Assembly is to rehabilitate some roads and provide walkways and bus stops along the major streets in Koforidua to help ease traffic congestion. In addition, the Assembly is also talking to the Department of Urban Roads to tar the Kasardjan By-pass to divert some of the motor traffic off the town to reduce the traffic in the central business area.
New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Kwasi Adjei-Boateng, who said this at a party for media personnel, said the assembly would encourage developers to construct high-rise buildings in the Nyamekrom area because of the limited land in the New Juaben Municipal area. He said the Assembly had started encouraging cattle owners in the Municipality to consider relocating outside the municipality since the lands were under pressure for other economic activities.
Nana Adjei-Boateng thanked the press in Koforidua for their contribution to the development of the area. He said the criticisms of the media had helped the Assembly to reshape its policies to meet the aspirations of the electorate and urged the media to also give praise where it was due. The Municipal Chief Executive called on the media to support the promotion of the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme in the Municipality.
Mr. Emmanuel Safo of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation called on the Municipal Assembly to organize frequent interactions with media personnel to enable them to get the necessary information for their work. Mr Tom Brentuo, Eastern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, said the media was likely to be critical of the Executive in this election year and therefore called on political functionaries in the area to be prepared to avail themselves of the regular interactions on their activities for the benefit of the electorate.
