New Juaben MCE denies allegations of corruption

Mr Alex Asamoah, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has denied media reports that he is causing financial loss to the assembly.

Mr Asamoah is being accused of paying sitting allowances to some assembly members to monitor projects.

He said contrary to the report, members of the committee are rather ensuring that moneys owed the assembly are paid and projects are executed according to time and specification to reduce corruption.

According to Mr Asamoah, the monitoring and evaluation committee which media reports were claiming that he had formed to serve his own interest was in line with the Local Government Act 21.

He said the Act allows for the formation of sub committees to help the Executive Committee, of which he is a member.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Koforidua, Mr Asamoah said the committee was not in contradiction of the legislative acts.

He said the committee, being chaired by Nana Sarfo Katanka, an Assembly Member for Akwadum, is not taking daily allowance of GH¢ 60 as reported but rather GH¢ 30 per sitting. The MCE said through the vigilance of members of the committee they were able to detect that some public toilets owed the assembly more than GH¢ 70,000.

Mr Asamoah noted that the committee is a stumbling block to persons who have an agenda to serve their own interests.
