Discussions of the tripartite committee on a new minimum wage for public sector workers have been adjourned with no agreement yet. Members of the committee comprising representatives of employers association, labour and government have been meeting all day to arrive at a consensus on a new minimum wage.
According to Joy FM, the discussions had reached a deadlock with the government proposing nine thousand cedis as against twelve thousand cedis demanded by the Trades Union Congress.
A technical sub-committee was constituted last month to work out the details for a new minimum wage taking into consideration the impact of the near hundred per cent upward adjustments of petroleum prices on salaries and wages.
The representatives will meet again next week Thursday to continue with the deliberations. The representatives on the committee are Ato Ampiah for employers, Kwesi Adu-Amankwaah for organized labour and Cecilia Bannerman, Employment Minister for government.
