Accra, Jan. 29, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday played host to the new executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Osu Castle in Accra, and stressed stronger collaboration between the party and government to realise party ideals and national goals. He assured the executives that the doors of government were always open to them and pointed at the inter-dependence of the two entities as he identified the party as the engine of government.
"The party is the backbone of Government and there is the need for inter-dependence of the two," President Mills said. He explained that the Government was a product of the party and the party had placed the Government in power to manage the affairs of the state. The President told the delegation, which was at the Castle to introduce the new executives to him, to feel free to offer advice to the Government because no single person was a storehouse of knowledge and wisdom. President Mills expressed the hope that the new executives would continue to maintain cordial relations with Government.
The President appealed to the executives to put any strong words that might have been used in the campaign prior to their election at the recent Tamale congress behind them, and forge ahead in unity for the progress of the party and the nation. "I have no doubt the national executives can deliver very well to realize the purpose of achieving a Better Ghana and stronger NDC," President Mills said.
Party Chairman Dr Kwabena Adjei, who led the delegation, said the successful conduct of the congress in Tamale showed to all and sundry that Dagbon was not a violent place. He recognized the hard work and contribution of the old executives in bringing the party that far and its reclamation of power in the 2008 general elections. Dr Adjei, who was retained, also thanked the old executives for the successful conduct of the party's regional and constituency executive elections.
He announced that the National Executive Committee meeting has been scheduled for February 4. Among the delegation were Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary, and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, Mr Said Sinare and Mr Danny Annang, all Vice Chairmen of the NDC. 29 Jan. 10
