New Sports Policy In The Offing - Azantilow

Bolgatanga,(Upper East Region) 18 October A new policy to encourage the participation of District Assemblies and the private sector in sports development is to be implemented soon, Mr Sylvester Azantilow, a Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports said today. He said the policy will among others address problems hindering private participation. Mr Azantilow was speaking at the finals of the Milo schools and colleges soccer match between Bolgatanga and Zamse Secondary Technical at the Bolgatanga sports stadium. Zamse beat Bolgatanga 5-1. He said under the policy, District Assemblies would use a percentage of their share of the district assembly common fund to provide basic sports infrastructure and equipment. Mr Azantilow hinted that the El-Wak, Kaneshie and Kumasi sports stadia would be rehabilitated to enable Ghana to host the African under-20 Youth soccer championships in 1999. Mr Azantilow later presented two footballs each to the two schools.
