New UEW TESCON executives assume office

Winneba (C/R), June 5, GNA - A patron of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON), of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Henry Puffa, has urged party members to work hard to attract more supporters for victory in the December 2008 elections.

Dr Puffa who is also the Head of Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports Students Association (HPERSSA), gave the advice at a handing-over ceremony during which old executives TESCON handed over to a newly elected body at Winneba.

He reminded Ghanaians to disabuse the mentality that the forthcoming elections are a straight fight between the NPP and NDC.

He noted that, the December elections would be "a win-win situation among all parties involved, hence no party ought to be undermined". Dr Puffa observed that, the tendency where the media focussed on the two major political parties in the country, bred tension and unhealthy rivalry in our body politic and called for a change of the trend'. The outgoing President of TESCON, Mr. David Addotey reminded the newly elected executives not to see the association as a profit making organization.

Mr Addotey urged them to exhibit self commitment, love and loyalty to the party in order to reap the benefits in due course. On behalf of the entire executives, he pledged the full support of TESCON to Mr Abubakar Sardique Boniface to be considered in the choice of a running mate to Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo Addo, NPP flag bearer. The incoming President of TESCON, Stephen Ohene, pledged his commitment to elevate the party to a high pedestal and tasked all members of the party to redouble their efforts to recapture power. The Deputy Director of the Institute for Educational Development and Extension (IEDE) of the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. George Kankam, thanked the outgoing executives for increasing membership of the party.

Dr. Kankam, who is also a patron member, said that differences within the party should be seen as challenges that should unite them.
