Apam (C/R), March 30, GNA - The District Chief Executives of Gomoa and Awutu-Effutu-Senya have resolved problems that came up at New Winneba and Nyanyano Kakraba at the beginning of the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC).
The two communities had refused to be counted by enumerators from different administrative districts. The people of New Winneba said though they were resident on Gomoa land they came from Awutu-Effutu-Senya and wanted to be counted by enumerators from their own district.
The people of Nyanyano Kakraba on the other hand, said they belonged to Gomoa and notwithstanding their proximity to Kasoa in the Awutu-Effutu- Senya district, they would not allow enumerators from there to count them.
Both Mr Kow Anyanful of Gomoa and Lt Daniel Osardu of Awutu-Effutu-Senya districts went to the two communities and explained to them that the census had nothing to do with ethnicity but how the population is distributed to enable the government to provide them with basic amenities.
Mr Humprey Dodor, Gomoa District Census Officer, commended the two DCEs for resolving the New Winneba and Nyanyano Kakraba problems. On complaint about over-loaded questionnaire, he explained that the answers were needed for effective planning.
