New districts yielding results

Dambai (V/R), Sept. 8, GNA - The quest by government under the tutelage of President John A. Kufuor to facilitate the growth and development of the countryside by creating additional districts was yielding positive results.

The newly Krachi East District carved out of the Krachi West District recently, have started basking in the up springing of some infrastructure facilities, resulting from the seven billion cedis seed financial assistance it received for a take-off.

Mr Michael Gyato, Krachi East District Chief Executive and his Assembly members undertook an inspection tour of some selected facilities after the dissolution of the Assembly on Tuesday.

They visited the newly built five bedroom DCE's residence, worth 2.9 billion cedis, the 560 million cedi District Coordinating Director's (DCD) residence and a 530 million cedis self-contained apartment for the District Magistrate Judge, which are soon to be walled. Others are, the 265 million cedi Dambai Area Council Office, the 659 million-cedi Magistrate's Court, the rehabilitation of a three-unit senior staff quarters at 585 million cedis.

The rest are, the 2.1 billion cedis Assembly complex with about 80 per cent work completed, the completion of the 2.4 billion cedi five-unit semi-detached bungalows for staff of the assembly and the construction of a proposed police station, which is about 80 per cent complete. On roads, Mr Gyato said periodic surface dressing and routine spot improvements were underway on the Asukawkaw-Dambai highway and its ancillary feeder roads with contract on the main highway to be awarded soon.

He said his administration and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) were exploring avenues to source for funding towards the construction of a district health facility, which was inevitable towards healthcare delivery in the district.

Mr Gyato said the absence of a district health hospital was impacting negatively in the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), as the nearest facilities could only be accessed at Krachi West, Nkwanta or Worawora hospitals, which are far in terms of distance. Sept 8, 06
