Mr David Smith, General Manager of Kvaerner, formerly Trafalgar House Construction International limited, the contractors, said the 240- bed hospital comprises nine wards, three major theatres, a mortuary, laundry and sterilising department. Mrs Victoria Darko, a director in charge of support services at the ministry of health, said the ministry is holding discussions with the social security and national insurance trust (SSNIT) to provide accommodation for the staff of the new hospital. She said some years ago the ministry put up 36 bungalows and a number of flats in anticipation of the hospital project but these are being occupied by staff of the old government hospital.
