A senior member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh has said the party will register ghosts should the Electoral Commission (EC) go ahead to compile a new voters’ register.

The party has denounced the Commission’s move describing it as a waster of resources and time.

The former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ejisu-Juabengunder the erstwhile John Mahama’s administration in a submission on Kumasi-based Pure FM hosted by Kwame Adinkra and monitored by Mynewsgh.com stated that the EC continues to give the impression that it is doing the bidding of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) which is very worrying moving into the December polls.

He remarked that should the Commission continue with the much opposed new voters’ register compilation by their party, they will ensure that even dead members of the NDC are registered on the said date. “Kwame, the EC’s posture is dangerous. The woman, she continues to make it clear that she has an agenda working for President Akufo-Addo’s Interest. We are only sounding a word of caution to them, they should be fair, flexible and open for dialogue.

If they continue with this exercise that we have solidly objected to. We will make sure even ghosts, NDC ghosts are registered.” He opined.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has set April 18, 2020, to compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 December elections.

The decision has met fierce opposition from government critics, opposition political parties and some civil societies.

The EC, however, remains adamant on the decision and is hopeful that it will complete the exercise by May 30, 2020.

Ghana’s Parliament has approved the over GHS 390 million budget the Electoral Commission needs to compile the new voters’ register
