Newly recruited teachers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Western Region have threatened the government to lay down their tools over their 7 months unpaid salaries.

According to a teacher who spoke on condition of anonymity, their colleagues in other Regions have received their salaries and since the government has remained adamant to their plea, the only option left is to protest.

The teachers were recruited by the Ghana Education Service as a strategy to support its double track system being implemented under the Free SHS.

But in an interview with Accra based UTV, the head of payroll at GES, Emmanuel Kwesi Essel admitted that the salaries have delayed but it is due to some system challenge GES is experiencing and very soon it will be resolved.

"It is not a financial challenge," he stated.

He said, “Our staff across the country are working day and night to make sure that their salaries are paid.”

Mr Essel however, assured the teachers that GES is working around amidst the challenges to sure that they receive full payment of their salaries.
