Newmont trainees donate PPEs to health facilities in Ahafo

The Trainees of the Newmont Goldcorp Ahafo Mine’s Apprenticeship Training Programme on Wednesday presented Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth GHC 12,000 to health facilities in the Asutifi North District and Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo region.

The items, comprising 4,000 pieces of hand gloves, 1,000 pieces of nose masks, 80 bottles of hand sanitizers and four gallons of liquid soap were presented to the Kenyasi and Gyedu health centres in Asutifi North and Yamfo and Terchire health centres in the Tano North.

These communities are within the Newmont Ahafo Mine’s operational area.

Mr. Franklin Boakye, the leader of the trainees said “we see the fight against COVID-19 as a shared responsibility, so we decided to put our allowances together and support these health facilities to make the fight against pandemic in our region successful”.

The gesture is our voluntary contribution to the Region’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Foster Nyarko, the Asutifi North District Director of Health, who received the PPEs on behalf of the four health centres thanked the trainees for the patriotic gesture.

He said so far, the District had sent samples of six suspected cases of COVID-19 to the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR), but all the results came out negative.

Dr. Nyarko urged the public to observe all the safety protocols to prevent the spread of the disease, stressing that the Ahafo Region has not recorded any COVID-19 case yet.

The Apprenticeship Training Programme was established by Newmont Goldcorp Ghana in 2005 as part of the company’s commitment to help young people within its host communities to acquire employable skills.
