Nifa Senior High School calls for infrastructure development

Nifa Senior High School has received donation from two year groups with a call on the alumni body to assist in improving the school’s infrastructure challenge.

The 1990 and 1986-year groups presented 40 benches and 20 tables and books respectively.

In an interview with Ghana News Agency after the donation, Ms Patience Naki Mensah, the Assistant Headmistress commended the groups for the gesture.

She said the donation furniture would help to salvage the situation where students had to eat in batches.

She called on the alumni body and other stakeholders to help the school establish an assembly hall such that the dining hall would be used for its stated purpose.

Ms Naki Mensah said the school was challenged with infrastructure growth as currently, only 20 out of the 108 teachers are staying on campus with this it is difficult to instil discipline in the over 2,500 students with less than 20 teachers on campus.

She said there is the need to expand the dining hall, build an assembly hall and more bungalows for the teachers to handle the teeming number of students.

Ms Naki Mensah said there is also the need for a conducive learning atmosphere and fixing the louvre blades in the classroom would help to keep students warm when the weather becomes unbearable.

Mr Solomon Mensah, the President of the NISEC 1990, said the group decided to make the donation to supplement the available furniture in the dining hall which has led to students attending dining activities in batches.

He said: “We came around earlier and realise that many of them do not even have tables to sit on but there were benches.”

Mr Solomon said the group decided to focus on the short term needs of the school and strategise effectively to attain the long term needs.

Dr Joan Boampong, the President of the 1986 Year Group, said the group donated the books to help improve the academic activities of the students and help upgrade the school’s library.

She said Nifa Old Students Association has the school at heart and would continue to undertake a number of projects to aid in the development of the school.

She said the alumni body would not relent in their efforts to make the school a better place for all students.
