Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly are to visit Ghana on excursion.

The State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mrs Kemi Jayeoba-Olorunsogo, who disclosed this in Ibadan yesterday, said the state government organised the tour in conjunction with Peace Airlines Limited.

According to Olorunsogo, the letter notifying the lawmakers have been despatched to the Speaker, Hon Azeez Alarape, and the Clerk of the Assembly for necessary action.

She said the tourism board organised the excursion in order to encourage the lawmakers to appreciate the need to always go on holiday and promote tourism.

She said, "it is a known fact that tourism in Nigeria has been in the doldrums for so long before the commencement of democratic governance.

"Lawmakers during their visit to Ghana will under study the Ghana parliament in order to enable them enrich their lawmaking experience.

"I don't see anything wrong in the lawmakers going to Ghana on excursion, we have to develop the culture of going on holiday or travelling abroad, we just want to teach our people how to relax, I don't think there is anything special about it, she said."

However, Olorunsogo said the house will finance the trip because they have their own budget. They are free to do anything they like with it."
