Accra, June 14, GNA - An Accra Regional Tribunal on Wednesday jailed a 43-year old Nigerian for 10 years for attempting to export 563 grams of cocaine.

Tony Onwuchwa pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine, a narcotic drug.

The Tribunal convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him accordingly.

The Prosecution told the Tribunal that on May 21 2005 the Convict arrived at the Kotoka International Airport to board a KLM Flight to Switzerland.

The Prosecution said while Onwuchwa was going through departure formalities, security personnel on duty at the Airport suspected him of carrying narcotic drugs.

He was, therefore, escorted to the 37th Military Hospital where an X-ray examination conducted on him revealed that he was carrying some foreign materials in his stomach.

For this reason, the Convict was put under observation, during which time he expelled 60 pellets of whitish substance. Analytical examination report on the substance from the Ghana Standards Board proved positive for cocaine.

Upon interrogation, he told the Police that he was carrying the substance to someone in Geneva on behalf of one Yakubu for a fee of 3,500 pounds.
