Kumasi, Aug. 3, GNA - A 24-year-old Nigerian has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH¢62,017.00 from his former employer.
Collins Celestine Chijoke has denied the offence and would re-appear on August 13, 2010.
The accused fled the country after the crime and was arrested with the assistance of the International Police Organization (Interpol).
Police Chief Inspector Frimpong Manso told the court presided over by Mr Justice D.W.P Amedior that the complainant, Festus M. Onyeaghala, is the Managing Director of the Temadom Trading Company Limited, dealers in spare parts.
In early 2008, he employed Chijoke as the branch manager of the company in Kumasi.
The prosecution said an audit in August, the same year, could not trace bicycle parts valued at GH¢62,017.00 at the Kumasi shop.
Chijoke immediately went into hiding in South Africa and later to Nigeria where he was arrested with the assistance of Interpol and brought back to Ghana.
Police Chief Inspector Frimpong-Manso said the accused confessed stealing the money during police interrogation.
