Bolgatanga May 7, GNA - Nigerians living in Ghana have been asked to be of good behaviour and abide by the laws of the country. "It is not good that our brothers and sisters who choose to indulge in criminal activities continue to mar the good name of Nigerians and I urge you all to show your appreciation for the hospitality given you by abiding by all the laws of Ghana," Mr. Muhammed Musiliu Obanikoro, High Commissioner of Nigeria to Ghana said on Thursday when he visited the Nigerian community in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region. The High Commissioner said he was in the region to interact with the Nigerians and to advise them against the increasing numbers of Nigerians who were indulging in criminal activities, especially in Accra and Kumasi.
He noted that even though Ghana had opened her doors to all Nigerians, only those who show good behaviour and respect for the laws of the country would be given the chance to live long and achieve their goals.
"Let me warn that those who come with a different agenda are in the wrong country", he added. The High Commissioner called on the Nigerian citizens not to condone crime but collectively condemn it and report any of their colleagues who indulges in criminal activities so that the appropriate sanctions would be taken against them.
Mr. Obanikoro noted that Ghana and Nigeria had a common destiny and all should be working towards unity and welfare of the two countries and not do things that would bring distrust and acrimony. Reacting to a request by the Nigerian citizens to have consular identification cards, he assured them that he would see to it that they all had it to enable them travel smoothly from Ghana to Nigeria without difficulties at the barriers.
He advised them to form one group so that they could easily channel their grievances to the consulate and also receive any help due them. He asked them to stay clear of ethnic conflictS and not take sides. 07 May 09
