Mr Moses Owharo, President of Nigerian Community in Ghana, on Friday cautioned Nigerians in Ghana against the acquisition of fake Nigerian voters’ identification cards in Ghana for next year’s presidential election in Nigeria.
He said his office received information that some Nigerians were allegedly printing fake Nigerian voters’ card at Ashaiman and called on Nigerians to be wary of such activities.
Mr Owharo told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in a telephone interview that seven Nigerians were being investigated by the Ashaiman Police over the issuance of fake Nigeria voters’ identification cards in a Hotel in Ashaiman.
Sources at the Ashaiman Police Station confirmed that some Nigerians have been picked and undergoing investigation for “unlawful gathering.”
Mr Owharo said checks at the Nigerian High Commission showed that the exercise was illegal.
He said the suspects through promotional materials claimed Nigerians could use the cards in presidential elections next year and also as free border pass and for bank transactions.
Dr. Chukwudi Jude, King of Igbo Community in Ghana, said the illegal exercise was to deceive Nigerians and further dent the image of Nigeria in Ghana and appealed to the police to act swiftly.
