Nine Teachers presented with awards.

Daboase (Western Region) 13 Oct. '98 Ghana is making every effort to fully implement the Convention which defines the status, responsibilities and rights of teachers.

Mr. A. E. Aggrey, the Mpohor -Wassa -East District Chief Executive, announced this at the " teachers day" celebration and awards day at Daboase in the Mpohor -Wassa -East District

He said the NDC Government is the only one that is implementing the Convention signed in Paris in 1966 and ratified by Ghana.

Mr. Aggrey said Government is doing this in recognition of the unique role teachers play in the development of the country through the training of manpower.

He said the Government has approved the construction of a number of teachers accommodation units nation-wide to encourage them to give of their best.

Mr. Aggrey urged teachers and education related workers in the district to work harder to improve the quality and standard of education.

He said 50 newly trained teachers were posted to the district this year, adding that the district education oversight committee is liaising with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to find solutions to their problems.

Major (RTD) S. K. Amponsah, Member of Parliament for Mpohor- Wassa East, who chaired the function, asked teachers to support efforts of Government for the attainment of the objectives of the education reforms.

He said the District Assembly would assist communities that start the construction of teachers quarters and libraries with cement and roofing sheets.

Major Amponsah said the Assembly would also buy books for the libraries to help improve reading skills of children and contribute 500,000 cedis annually towards the celebration of the 'teachers day' and awards ceremonies.

Mr. Cephas Asilevi of Himanso district council primary school, was presented with the best primary school teacher award, Mr. Robert Vandyke of Adum Dominasi JSS, the best JSS teacher and Mr. Alexis Baako, Mpohor Senior Secondary School, the best SSS teacher.

Mr. Jacob Asarhin, Manso Anglican Primary school , won the Best Head Teacher award and Mr. Joseph Ackah, of Atobiase circuit, best circuit supervisor. GRi
