Koforidua, Mar. 22, GNA - Nine suspected armed robbers arrested in connection with recent spate of armed robberies in the Koforidua municipality were on Tuesday put on an identification parade by the Eastern Regional Police Command.

Out of them five, Yaw Boakye, 34, alias "Onua Playboy" of Dome, Accra, Twum Ampofo, 26, of Koforidua, Kwabena Stephen, alias "Osama" of Koforidua, Kwaku Ruben, 34, alias "Mogya" and Martey Yaw Hammond, 18, were identified by five out of the seven victims around.

The other suspects included Peter Tetteh, 33, Kwadwo Darkwa, 28, Nicholas Odoi, 34 of Dodowa and Kudji Ernest, 26.

The only woman suspect in custody, Alimatu Sadia, 24, who is said to be a girl friend of Ruben, was, however, not put on the over two-hour parade.

Briefing newsmen later, the Eastern Regional Deputy Crime Officer, ASP Paul Eklo, who conducted the parade, said the suspects were helping the Police in connection with five armed robbery cases between February 24 and March 9, this year.

According to him, Yaw Boakye and Twum Ampofo were suspected to be involved in the robbery of Mr Osei Kwadwo, a filling station attendant, during which he lost 120 million cedis of fuel sales at the gate of his house.

They and some of the suspects were also mentioned in the robbery of a family at Mile 50 Osabene, on March 1, during which Mr Peter Kingsley Adjei of the Regional Treasury and his wife were seriously assaulted and wounded.

They were robbed of 2.5 million cedis, two cell phones and personal effects.

ASP Eklo said on March 3, another couple at the Monrovia suburb lost 3.5 million cedis, two cell phones, jewellery and cloths. On March 9, he said another gang attacked one Madam Florence McCarthy on the Okorase road and robbed her of two cell phones and 280,000 cedis.

The gang after that moved to the nearby home of a staff of the Value Added Tax (VAT), Mr Augustine Kojo Abankwa, broke into his saloon car and took away two million cedis, a cell phone and personal effects.
