Nkawkaw Police arrest ten suspected armed robbers

Nkawkaw, May 13, GNA - The Nkawkaw Police, had arrested ten suspected armed robbers, who snatched vehicles, mostly taxis from drivers at gun point.

The suspected armed robbers, whose pleas were not taken were remanded in Police custody by the Mpraeso Circuit Court, Presided over by Mr Kwaku Osei, to reappear on May 23.

The robbers included Kwame Tawiah “alias Kwame Appah, alias Wofa Prince, 28 year-old businessman, George Ofori “alias Kwame George”, 22, cola nut dealer, Kwabena Nkansah ‘alias Alewa’, 21, fitting apprentice, Enoch Ofosu, 23, trader, Kwame Ofosu, 24, trader and James Frimpong ‘alias Kwaku James, 24, also a trader.

The others are Bright Agyekumhene, 25, trader, Abdul Razak, 30, businessman, William Awasa, 31, mechanic and Kwame Kissi ‘alias Agogo’, 26, a driver.

The Nkawkaw Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Seth Yirenkyi, told Ghana News Agency at Nkawkaw on Friday that the Police received tip off about car snatching by alleged armed robbers in the Kwahu area and Nkawkaw in particular since early last year.

He said on April 15 this year, the Police had the hint that a private Toyota Corolla salon car with registration number GE 1165-09 belonging to Mr Fred Adu Dwomoh had been snatched at gun point on the Nkawkaw-Nsuta road by three suspected armed robbers.

DSP Yirenkyi said two weeks later the Police at Nkawkaw had information that Kwame Tawiah and George Ofori were arrested by the Police in Kumasi with a Toyota Corolla and had its original registration number changed to GT 8889-011.

He said when the two suspected armed robbers were brought to Nkawkaw, they mentioned the names of the other eight suspects as part of the syndicate.

DSP Yirenkyi said when an identification parade was organized, some of the drivers recognized the suspects as those who snatched their vehicles at gun point.
