Nkosuohene constructs 120 million cedis library for Kwahu Tafo

Kwahu Tafo (E/R), Sept 1, GNA - A 120-million-cedi community library stocked with 4,000 books has been provided for Kwawu Tafo in the Eastern Region through the leadership of Nana Kwadwo Ameyaw Gyearbuor Yiadom I, Nkosuohene of the area, The Friends of Kwahu Tafo and School Aid in the United Kingdom, both benevolent societies in the UK, presented 172 bursaries, 174 school uniforms and 33,000 exercise books worth 50 million cedis to needy school children in the six basic schools in the town.

The Chief of Kwahu Tafo, Nana Ameyaw Gyensiama III, said this at the dedication of the library. The library is named after the late Christopher Gyeabour Asante, an actor and a citizen of the town. He said the British and Foreign School Society donated 85 million cedis worth of English, mathematics, science and other books to the school children in the town.

Mrs Mary Donkor, a citizen based in the United States, also donated seven cartons of assorted books to the library.

Dedicating the library, the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, said the government has set up a programme to review the education system.

Mr Baah-Wiredu said 188 billion cedis is being spent to provide infrastructures and other logistics for the establishment of a model Senior Secondary School in all the 110 districts, while the Ghana Library Board has also received 500 million cedis from the GETfund to provide books for libraries.

He commended the Nkosuohene, a British known in private life as Mr Humphrey Barclays, and the Kwahu Tafo community for their initiative to provide a decent place for learning and provision of teaching material for schools in the area.
