The Democracy Hub has welcomed the Attorney General’s decision to enter a nolle prosequi in the case against its convenors and members who protested against illegal mining (galamsey).

However, the group insists this does not erase the injustices they endured.

In a statement dated February 7, 2025, the group condemned the violent crackdown, illegal arrests, and inhumane treatment of protestors.

“We refuse to accept this decision as the end of the matter. The violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators must not be forgotten,” the statement read.

Democracy Hub is demanding an independent inquiry into the abuses suffered by protestors, insisting that “those responsible—whether in the Ghana Police Service, the National Security apparatus, or any other arm of the state—must be held accountable.”Virtual cooking classes

The group also expressed gratitude to its legal team and allies for their unwavering support, vowing to continue the fight against galamsey and the protection of democratic rights.

“The fight against galamsey is far from over, and neither is the struggle to defend the fundamental rights of all Ghanaians,” they stated.
