The Acting Executive Director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), Ussif Mustapha, has advised prospective National Service personnel to acquire a nationally recognised identity card in order to facilitate a smooth registration process for the 2018/2019 service year.
According to him, it is necessary for the prospective service personnel and students to get either Voter’s ID, Driver’s Licence, SSNIT card or a passport.
He argued that people would be tempted to engage in fraudulent activities during the registration process once the issue of national IDs are side-lined.
“The National IDs are available to every Ghanaian so there is no excuse. Once you are going to give room for excuses you will find a lot of people compromising on our database You have the Driver’s Licence, Voter’s ID card, SSNIT number and passport,” Ussif Mustapha reiterated.
He added that even a baby can acquire a passport, thus there is no excuse whatsoever for students not having a national ID.
“Even a two-month old baby can acquire a passport so there is no excuse for you not having an ID. This 2018/2019 service year, each and every service personnel is supposed to have an ID so that you will be able to enrol because we need to strengthen and clean our database”.
The National Service Secretariat has made known plans to implement a paperless registration process to ensure easy and convenient registration and deployment of NSS personnel.
