The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the general public, especially the fishing community, that there is no shortage of premix fuel. It is being speculated in a section of the media that there is shortage of the fuel.
“Supply of premix fuel to the fisher folks has been stable and shall continue to be stable in order for the business of fishing during this peak fishing season to thrive”, Yaro Kasambata Public Relations Manager of the NPA told The Herald in an interview over the weekend.
His rebuttal follows media reports that premix fuel shortages have been registered in parts of the Greater Accra, Central and Western Regions.
But Mr. Kasambata, insists all Landing Beach Committees (LBCs) with a need for extra allocation of premix fuel must do so in accordance with practice and the laid down procedure of making their requests formally known to the National Premix Secretariat for consideration.
This clarification, he explained to the paper, is crucial to avoid hoarding and panic buying which could create artificial demand for the product.
Mr. Kasambata, disclosed that the National Premix Secretariat and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture had even assured the public of increasing the quantity of premix fuel supplied should the need arise and the basis so established in consultation with the various committees.
He encouraged the media to verify all claims of shortages with the appropriate authorities, namely; National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Tema Oil Refinery, National Premix Committee or the Ministry of Food and Agriculture so as not to create panic amongst the fisher folks.
He assured the fisher folks not to panic as the NPA was in position to ensure regular supplies of premix fuel for them to go about their business.
