Zakaria Abdulai has been accused of having sexual relations with about 16 students
Police in Bekwai have denied reports that the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has been arrested.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Lloyd Baidoo, made this known in an interview with Adom FM on October 21, 2026, contradicting comments by the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, who told Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, that the embattled headmaster had been arrested.
“As I speak to you, he has not been arrested. He is at home. So far, to the best of my knowledge, no arrest has been affected,” ASP Baidoo said.
Muntaka told the committee that the case had been transferred from the Ashanti Regional Police Command to Police Headquarters in Accra for further investigation.
According to him, the matter came to his attention on September 7, 2026, when a report was submitted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He said he subsequently insisted that the case be moved to the national headquarters.
He further disclosed that investigators were pursuing the legal procedures required to obtain a DNA sample from Abdulai for testing against semen reportedly recovered from a dress belonging to one of the alleged victims.
Obuasi SHTS Sex Scandal: Headmaster resigns as NDC secretary
Abdulai, who is also the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary for the Juaben Constituency, has resigned from the position and withdrawn his candidature for the constituency chairmanship election.
He remains interdicted as headmaster of Obuasi SHTS while investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students of the school continue.
