The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) says it is ready for any natural disasters including earthquakes that may hit the country.

Its Communications Officer told TV3 on Midday Live on Monday, December 10 that it has already partnered other stakeholders to prepare for any eventuality.

George Ayisi was speaking a day after some areas in Accra witnessed earth tremors.

Weija and Gbawe in the Ga South Municipal Assembly, as well as Oyibi in the Ga East municipality, suffered the tremors on Sunday, December 9.

Residents confirmed that the quake occurred at around 7:30am.

No casualties were recorded, according to Nadmo’s official.

But speaking on the natural disasters, Mr Ayisi said a simulation exercise was carried out in March this year to test the preparedness of personnel as well as other agencies.

He said the exercise was initially thought to be for floods but Nadmo had other disasters in mind.

He claims this has made them adequately prepared, especially for earthquakes.

“Fortunately for us as a country, we know the fault lines,” he disclosed, mentioning the coastal line and the Akwapim Range as the earthquake-prone areas.

He added that various district assemblies have also been partnered in efforts to reduce effects of disasters.
