Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe
The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced that transport fares will remain unchanged for the time being, despite the recent drop in fuel prices.
His remarks come amid growing calls for fare reductions, particularly following past instances where transport unions pushed for fare increases in response to rising fuel costs.
Speaking on the issue with the media in Accra, Nikpe stated that fare adjustments are determined by a structured formula and are subject to ongoing discussions with transport unions and operators.
“I am in constant touch with the unions and transport operators. We have a formula that we use to either increase or reduce fares, and we have not reached that point yet,” he said.
The Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in the transport sector through collaboration with key stakeholders.
He reassured commuters that fares would remain unchanged for now, pending further evaluations.
“We are in good touch. We are working together, and Ghanaians should rest assured that fares will be maintained for some time before any adjustments are made,” he added.
The Ministry’s position reflects an effort to strike a balance between providing relief to commuters and ensuring the financial sustainability of transport operators.
