The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has advocated for inclusive education and access to education for every child in schools across the country.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb TV’s Mandy Agyemang during a media engagement at the UNICEF headquarters on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, the Education Officer at UNICEF Ghana, Rhoda Enchil, stated that children should not be denied education because of their backgrounds.

According to her, a person's disability or religious background should not be a hindrance to their pursuit of education and personal development; instead, she said it should empower them to make a difference in the country.

“At the policy level, it will help give the direction for the Ministry of Education and all its implementing agencies to ensure that access to education for every child is done to the latter. No child should be denied their access to education because they are a girl or a boy or they have a disability or coming from a certain religious or social background or they coming from a very poor home. The principle of inclusion is that every child should be educated,” she noted.

Rhoda Enchil further emphasised the need for all stakeholders to collaborate and work alongside the government for the development of the education sector.

“We work closely with state and non-state actors to ensure that every child has access to education. In this instance, their right to education is fulfilled and that is why supporting or collaborating with the government to develop the inclusive education policy which has currently been revised is a very important step for us,” she said.
