Cape Coast, June 16, GNA - No disturbances or technical problem has been recorded in many of the registration centres in Cape Coast six days into the exercise.
When the Ghana News Agency visited the centres on Tuesday and Wednesday, it observed that most of the officers at the centres were under no pressure as people trickled in to register. Almost all the centres visited had cameras and were issuing out the Voters' Identification (ID) cards while party agents were also present. At the Pedu Basic School registration centre, Mrs. Marian Forson, the Registration Officer, said the exercise had been encouraging with a lot of youth trooping in to register.
She said 121 people had registered so far with 38 lost voter identification cards had been replaced.
Mrs Forson said agents of political parties ask people whose ages they doubt to produce birth certificates and this solved the issue. At the Abura Ahmadiya Primary School registration centre the registration officer, Mr. Mohammed Essuman, said 174 persons had been registered 76 ID cards had been replaced. The officer of the Esuakyir-Ankaful centre said 144 people had been registered while 49 people had their lost ID cards replaced. Some 302 people had been registered while 69 residents and 11 replaced their lost voter's ID cards at the Abura Roman Catholic Basic School registration centre.
Madam Paulina Korsah, the registration officer, said three boys whose ages were challenged on suspicion that they were under age had to produce their birth certificates but one failed to turn up and the two were registered.
Other centres visited were Gyegyem where 122 people had registered since the exercise began on Friday, Amanful 107 people mostly the youth, Brofoyedur, 70, and Adisadel Mosque, 120 registration and 18 replacements.
