No evil spirit behind tragic Kintampo accidents – Bono East Regional Minister

The Bono East Regional Minister, Honourable Kofi Amoakohene has downplayed assertions by a section of the public that evil spirits are responsible for the numerous accidents on the Kintampo-Tamale road.

According to Amoakohene, there is no evidence to attribute such disasters on that section of the road to evil spirits.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Ghanaweb's Bono Region correspondent, Aboagye Frank in the wake of the recent Kintampo accident which claimed 27 lives, Honourable Amoakohene revealed that accidents by nature are caused by several factors.

He avers that such factors have been proven to include human errors, bad nature of the road and mechanical faults.

He revealed that accidents in the country are not restricted to only that stretch so it will be strange for any individual to single out accidents on that stretch and attribute them to evil spirits.

“My brother it is sad to lose so many souls through road accidents. It is difficult to accept the carnage on this stretch and so we must look at it with a broader lens if we want to address it.

“I am a Christian but on issues like this, I disagree with anybody who holds such beliefs as most of these accidents have been proven to have been caused by human errors. It is time to get scientific and pragmatic in dealing with such issues.”

The Kintampo-Tamale highway has become notorious for some of the tragic accidents in the country.

Statistically, the Kintampo-Tamale highway has claimed more than 150 lives since 2016.

In February 2016, at least 53 people were killed and 23 others were injured in a head-on collision between a Metro Mass bus and a truck.

In March 2019, another 57 passengers also suffered a similar fate following another head-on collision between buses.
