Togbe Afede XIV is the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State
The Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has described Ho as an “Oxygen City,” citing its rich vegetation, scenic mountain ranges, and commitment to cleanliness and environmental preservation.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Oxygen City Housing Project in Ho in the Volta Region on December 17, 2025, Togbe Afede said the city has earned widespread admiration for its serene environment and healthy living conditions.
“Your Excellency, Ho has duly earned the accolade oxygen city. Everybody attests to the beauty of our small city, with our large vegetation and beautiful mountain range stretching from the northeast all the way to the northwest, and of course the mountain to the south. We have managed to keep the city very clean,” he stated.
He noted that visitors to Ho often fall in love with the city because of its cleanliness and peaceful atmosphere, adding that the Volta Region has successfully remained free from illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.

Togbe Afede further explained that the absence of galamsey has helped protect farmlands and food sources, attracting many people to Ho to purchase uncontaminated food crops and foodstuffs.
“Many are flooding our city to buy basic food crops because of our desire to live healthy and feed on clean, uncontaminated food,” he said.
He commended the former District Chief Executive and traditional authorities for working together with national institutions to promote Ho as a clean and environmentally responsible city.
The Oxygen City Housing Project is expected to contribute significantly to efforts aimed at reducing Ghana’s housing deficit while promoting sustainable urban development in the Volta Region.
