The Director of Communications for the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has defended the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led government in the Ashanti Region, describing them as unprecedented in Ghana's history.

Speaking on Joy News on December 3, 2024, Aboagye accused former President John Dramani Mahama of misrepresenting the government's record in the region to gain more votes.

"I think the former president knows the truth; he is misrepresenting it to the people to get more votes. No government since 1992 has done as much as the NPP has done in the Ashanti Region and in any of the other regions.

"So, if we miss that point, it is fair that we run a quick comparative analysis between his party and the leadership under this government," he noted.

Miracles Aboagye further indicated that Mahama had failed to provide specific examples of his own administration's contributions to the region, claiming that sector-by-sector comparisons would reveal the NPP's superior record.

"I thought that when he (John Mahama) made that point, he was going to list what he has done for the people. Sector by sector, we can run some quick comparisons, but he didn't do it. I mean, which aspects of the sectors in the Ashanti Region is the former president talking about? We have done over 2,700 kilometers of roads in the Ashanti Region; they (NDC) did 331.

"So, what is the former president talking about? In fact, when the Ashanti people asked him for better roads during his tenure as president, he told them that even if he placed gold on their roads, they would not appreciate it," he added.

The Ashanti Region remains a crucial battleground in the pending election, with both the NPP and the NDC intensifying their campaigns.

As the NPP presses ahead with its campaign efforts, including the tireless push by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to highlight the party's achievements, the NDC's focus on addressing the current economic challenges will test the strength of their stronghold.
