The Ministry of Education has stated that there were no leakages in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination(WASSCE).

Previous exams conducted by the examination body recorded massive leakages which subsequently led to the cancellation of some of the papers.

The Minister, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang at the meet-the-press series held in Accra today said, this was achieved through strong collaboration between WAEC and other stakeholders.

“Our efforts to reduce leakages is yielding great results. In 2016 both BECE and WASSCE recorded no leakages at all. Kudos to WAEC and everybody who worked with us. Indeed this examination, most of the public did not know that the examinations were taking place. This is the way it should be.”

The ministry she added would continue to improve the credibility in examination system in the country.

Meanwhile she said: “As a means of giving opportunity to more Junior High graduates to have access to secondary education, a total number of 1,181 and 1,413 candidates took advantage of the first and second BECE resit program in order to improve on their performance,” she stressed.

Many of those graduates, she indicated have been mainstreamed into the SHS and therefore have the chance to upgrade themselves.
