Wa, Feb. 20, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs discipline, commitment and hard work to secure victory in 2012, Alhaji Abdulai Issahaque, former Upper West Regional Chairman of the party, has said. He said factionalism in the party ended with the election of Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo as Presidential candidate.
Alhaji Issahaque called on the youth of the party to carry out all tasks that would be assigned to them with zeal without asking for immediate rewards, saying 93if you think that you can make money out of every situat= ion you cannot be a fighter".
He said this at a news conference at Wa on Friday as the party prepare= s to organize primaries to elect Parliamentary candidates for the 2012 elections. Alhaji Issahaque believed that if the process for the selection of the Party's Parliamentary candidates was carried out transparently without th= e slightest show of favouritism or solidarity with any particular candidate, the party would win the 2012 elections.
"Allow the delegates the freedom to elect candidates who have the ma= ss appeal to win the seats for the party", he pleaded. He said 93experience has shown that people, who were sent out to man polling stations boycotted them because of divisions in the party and that gave our opponents the chance to do what they liked to deny us of victory i= n 2008 and this should never be allowed to happen".
He reiterated that elections were won and lost at the polling stations and therefore people sent out to perform duties such as polling agents must be capable of giving out their best for the success of the party. He commended Nana Akufo-Addo for forging a united front with the formation of a campaign team whose membership cut across the ranks and file= .. Alhaji Issahaque stated that he was very convinced that the NPP had more pro-poor policies for the country, which it could not implement if it failed to come back as ruling government.
