A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the ‘Ya Ye Den’ demonstration against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government slated for Tuesday, June 10 in Kumasi as unnecessary.

Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod), said he doesn’t see the need for anybody or group to hit the street to demonstrate against government.

The Ashanti NPP and the Parliamentary Caucus are organizing the demonstration to protest against government’s neglect of the Ashanti region.

The organizers have also cited the erratic power supply in the country, which is negatively affecting the people of the Ashanti region as reason for holding the protest.

“The demonstration, which will be staged in Kumasi over ‘dumsor’ is not necessary,” he said on a tape played on Angel FM, a radio station based in Kumasi.

He stated that the erratic power supply in the country was not caused by the current NDC administration.

According to the ex-Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, the erratic power supply is a perennial problem in the country.

He said nobody could blame the NDC or NPP administrations for plunging the country into power crisis since “it has been there for years.”

Ohene Agyekum expressed surprise at the decision of the people in the Ashanti region to hit the street to demonstrate against government.

Ohene Agyekum said the previous Kufuor administration encountered the power crisis during its tenure but nobody in the Ashanti region complained.

If there should be a demonstration, then it should be held in every part of the country and not only in the Ashanti region since the energy crisis is nationwide, he indicated.
