No need for foreign aid if corruption is uprooted - Martin Amidu

President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for Special Prosecutor, Mr. Martin B.K.A Amidu is of a strong opinion that Ghana does not need foreign support to make headway in terms of development if the fight against corruption succeeds

“Our country will not need any foreign assistance when corruption is taken out of any transaction made, both locally and internationally especially by officials occupying government seats”.

He indicated that past leaders chalked these feet and it would not be surprising if the current generation is able to root out corrupt practices from the system

“I know and believe the ancestors who fought for us to see Ghana today but have gone before me will welcome me into their bosom when I am no more”, the nominee told Parliament’s Vetting Committee during his vetting on Tuesday, February 13, 2017.

The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice reiterated his resolve to fight corruption whether with support or not indicating that fighting graft is his personal decision.

“Whether I am approved to be the Special Prosecutor or not I will continue to fight for the people of this country”, he vowed.

“I’m muddying myself for Ghana, I have been doing this for long and will continue to do so whether my nomination is approved or not”, the former Attorney General pointed out.

“I don’t care about criticism or who takes the credit, I will fight for this country at all levels”, the citizen vigilante fumed.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor will have the mandate to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged corruption under the Public Procurement Act 203 Act 63 and other corruption-related offences implicating public officers, political office holders and their accomplices in the public sector.
