A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team Mr. Davids Opoku has implored government appointees that they must not to be daunted by the Special Prosecutor if only their hands are clean.

President Akufo-Addo signed into law the bill setting up the Special Prosecutor office in January, 2018, after it was approved by Parliament in November 2017.

The appointment of the Special Prosecutor marked the fulfillment of a major campaign promise of Nana Akufo-Addo in the run-up to the 2016 elections aimed at fighting corruption.

Speaking on Happy FM‘s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, Mr. Opoku advised government appointees not to be alarmed by the Special Prosecutor if they have nothing dubious to hide.

“If you haven’t caused any financial lost to the state, don’t fear the Special Prosecutor. We all know those who fear the Special Prosecutor,” declared Mr. Opoku, who doubles as the director of operations for Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG).

His comment is a reaction to a statement president Nana Akufo-Addo made during the swearing in of the five newly appointed judges of the Appeals Court at the Jubilee House that, the judiciary should fully support the office of the Special Prosecutor in fighting corruption.

The newly appointed Judges are Justice Nicholas Charles Abbey Agbevor, Justice Alex Berchie Poku-Acheampong, Justice Anthony Kwadwo Yeboah, Justice Merley Afua Wood and Justice Ama Abuakwaa Gaisie.

There have been mixed reactions from both the ruling party and the NDC since Martin Amidu was appointed as the Special Prosecutor.
